A Summary of the October Virtual Kids Group
The Friends Kids Group was all about Spooky Season. We shared our favorite things about fall, played a Halloween costume guessing game (I dressed as Little Red Riding Hood), and talked about how the experience of stuttering can honestly be downright scary or ‘spooky’ sometimes. The kids shared that they are often scared to get called on in class and are afraid to be made fun of by their peers (or even their teachers). We each shared things we wish everyone knew about stuttering for International Stuttering Awareness day, and we decided that if everyone knew the following, it would be much less spooky to just stutter:
- “Stuttering is just the way that some people talk!”
- “People shouldn’t bully, make fun of, or laugh at people who stutter.”
- “Some people may take longer to say things. People should just be patient!”
- “We still deserve to talk, even if we stutter.”
- “People who stutter should be treated like everyone else.”
- “There are a lot of cool people who stutter.”
- “People who stutter are just as smart as everyone else.”
- “I wish people would be more kind to people who stutter.”
Thanks for listening! Until next time!
